how do i turn on my snowboard? And im a beginner any tips?
When you get comfortable snowboarding, you won’t have to think about it. But I’ve taught many beginners and it can be a tough concept to grasp.
At slow beginner speeds, you have to exaggerate your turns by lifting your tail off the snow, keeping it low to the ground. You can’t just lean and turn because at slow speeds you’ll just fall over.
Here’s a great beginner tip: strap in on your living room carpet and practice lifting your turns. Stand with your weight centered and balanced. Then put a transfer a bit of weight to your front foot and lift your tail off the ground with your back foot. At the same time, twist your hips in the direction of the turn, and slide your back foot and tail around. Do this back and forth for a bit, and that is the motion for learning to turn. You are essentially kicking your back foot out when learning to turn.
Trust me, this works very well until it becomes second nature. Good luck!

What kind of skis and snowboard should i get?
I had been skiing since I was relatively little. I stopped because of an injury and then started up again recently. I haven’t done any freestyle so I guess you could call me a beginner in that sense. I was wondering what kind of twin tips to get. Also I was wondering what kind of snowboard to get for a beginner.
Aside from that do you guys have any tips for going off and landing jumps along with simple grinds and tricks?
I recommend K2 and Slamon.
Those are great brands!
You can locate them on ebay and amazon.
Hope it helped!
3 commentsIs it OK to buy a youth snowboard if your an adult?
I’m a 22 yr old beginner snowboarder 5’2 and 106 lbs and I bought the girl’s Lamar Foxie 139 Jr. board. I’ve gone snowboarding about four times now and can’t seem to get carving down and tend to lose control of my board very easily. So I’m wondering if having a youth snowboard can affect performance or is it just me that sucks in general?
No it’s the board’s length. Your too big for that. That 139 is for somebody of like 70pounds and 4feet something, if you get to short a board it’ll feel very loose and wobbly at high speeds, like you already mentioned.. As a beginner you would be better fit for a board around a 146-148 to learn on.

First time snowboarding next Friday…any tips on snowboarding that you would like to tell a beginner?
If it helps, I already have a little experience with skiing, but this year, for our yearly school trip to the mountains, I have decided on switching to snowboard. I also figure skate, so if that helps with anything. Is there any tips about snowboarding, like how snowboard, or how to stop? Any suggestions and answers are appreciated!
the most important part is knowing how to stop. when you first put on your board and your at the top of the hill it will be sideways. that is how you want your board to be when you stop. when you stand up try sliding down the hill slowly with your board sideways, lean back to dig the edge in so that it stops you. when you come to a stop you will probably fall backwards but no worries its just part of getting used to standing on the board. to go down the hill turn the tip if the board so that its pointing down the hill. to stop just push your back foot out and lean back slightly. just keep doing this till you feel like you have control of stoping. when you feel comfortable with that you can try carving, that’s when you turn back and forth in an s pattern. to turn on your toe side you have to push your back foot out and lean on your front foot with a little more of your weight. the best way to learn is to practice. you can read all you want but you will do a lot better by trying it, and when your not quite sure about something, just go for it. but don’t be stupid, stick to the small hills. good luck and have a good time.
