Help with snowboarding!?!?

It was my first time snowboarding yesterday ( i was with my school) and I really sucked at it. Next week we’re going again (it’s a six week snowboarding program) and can someone just explain the snowboarding basics, like how to stop, turn etc. The instructors were helpful and nice but I think they’re getting frustrated with me because i kept hanging on to them and I just couldn’t do it. Any helpful tips would also be useful too.
Thanks :)

Almost everyone sucks HARD their first time. It took me over a year to get good, actually, not to discourage you or anything, but be patient. Just practice sliding down on your toe edge and heel edge until you become comfortable with both before you start practicing linking the turns and carving. There’s lot of videos on Youtube that will help with the basics. Good luck!

iam willing to pay around $300 for a 153-155 board! i want an All-Mountain Freestyle board! id like a burton board if so! iam 5’11" / weight 155 / 9.5 boot.

wait a month the end of the seaon sale is coming. if u just ride get a longer board. if u like doing /trying tricks a shorter board. u can go wrong with burton. but u get what u pay for so look around

How long did it take you to learn the basics at snowboarding?

For me it took one good day of learning. A lot of time on my butt. On the second day I was able to go down the mountain pretty decent, I did take some spills though.

I did not take a lesson and don’t really think it is necessary if you have someone with you that is willing to show you the basic fundamentals.

Also for me I Started out on the really little bunny hill which made it harder because you can only go so far then you have to go back up the hill again. My advice is go to the bunny hill and fool around for like an hour and get comfortable, then go up the lift on a beginner run with somebody. Then work your way down the mountain. You will spend a lot of time on your butt, and face but this way you will get more riding time in. Good luck!

what are some of the basics that i need to know for snowboarding?

I’m going snowboarding tomorrow with 2 of my buddies, but we have never snowboarded b4. We know how to ski, so just tell me the basics aobut how to turn, slow down, stop, get off ski lift and things like that… thanks everyone

focus on keeping centered body weight on the board, beginners dont exactly know how to control the board yet so equal weight on both feet is a must until you are ready to turn or stop or carve, so to do this, place your hands on your knees while going down, this will keep ur shoulders facing the same as your knees and force you to get used to just turning your head, if you try to turn your shoulders before you are experienced in riding, the weight of your back foot will all shift to your front foot and the tail of your board will have no control and you’ll end up face planting it or falling on your taint…..that is the most important, dont be afraid to shift your body hard enough to make the board do what you want it to do, remember you control the board nothing else…
