How do I control my speed on a snowboard!?

Is it true you control speed by applying pressure by your back foot? Any advice would be great, i need to stop flying down the slope.

carve harder the harder you push on your heals or toes causes the board to dig into the snow more slowing you down more.
but honesty if your learning (which im assuming you are) the more speed the eaiser it is to not fall even though it does hurt more because you can catch an edge and fall very easily if you are going slow
good luck :)

Did Joyride go out of business or stop making snowboards?

They went out of business awhile ago, nearly ten years if I remember correctly. I don’t know if they just closed their doors or merged with another company and are now making boards under a different name. In either case, Joyride definitely no longer exists.

when you stop while snowboarding, do you kick your feet HARD?

it shouldn’t feel like you are putting any force into it.

Damaged snowboard on the top -stripped back to wood?

On my last snowboard trip, a skier stopped on the top edge of my board behind my front binding. He stopped right on the edge taking a good 3 inches of my board edge off. It was so powerful that it has been stripped all the way back to the wood. I was wondering how this could be fixed or what the likely cost would be in a shop. Any ideas? Thanks very much.

Hey, you mention "edge" and "top" of board.

For top skin damage, I’m not sure what the procedure would be…but I imagine you need to get it resealed, or water will get into the core and rot it all out. If the metal edge is actually torn out, that portion can be replaced as well.

I’m guessing you are looking at around $100, depending on the actual damage, for repair. Not seeing it, that is just a guess. Usually an edge repair with a core shot from underneath runs around $50 or so, and if you have top skin damage, if it is repairable, I’m sure it is going to cost you.

Sorry to hear that. I’m a skier, and I take offense if anyone messes with my gear. Too bad you weren’t carrying something you could wack that person with!

You really should have gotten his name and such, as that is something you could report to the resort, and file for damages against that skier. We are all responsible for our actions on the slopes.

what should i do to prep my snowboard?

my old snowboards, i’ve just bought and used, but they always rust. what should i do to prep it before my first time use? anything certain, such as to spray it with to stop rusting, or anything like that? what are your tricks and tips to keeping your board in mint condition?

a deburring stone would be good to use on it to remove rust, a deburring stone it good to use on your board if it has chips in the edge and you want to prep it before an edge sharpening, people also use it to detune their edge, for a less catchy ride. i wish i could find my old stone for sale, it softer than the ones i see now, its tan and i love it the best. Gummy stones are nice for before a deburring stone too, it will basically make it smoother as well but take off very minumal amounts but it wount take off much rust. For rust you might consider a rust remover like CLR, but i probably wouldnt risk getting much on your base. "I" wouldnt bother with putting a stop rust on, but do like they say and wipe your board dry after you use it, and especially before you store it, If there are any gaps between your base and edge, you can get them filled probably, or atleast just keep wax in the gap. They say to lean your board so that gravity helps keep its concave (bend), but as long as there is not pressuder keeping your board flat when you store it you are fine. Also put on a layer of wax vefore you store it in the summer, so the base doesnt dry up. You never want your base to be without wax for long extended periods of time, like months. On the lift and in the lift line i try to keep people from bashing my board to protect from nicks. Also im goiing to put duck tape underneath my bindings to prevent my board from getting scratched from the bindings, but just one layer on the bottom of the bindeings so the screw goes just as deep in the board. If you live in humid conditions you can dry and then apply wax to your edges before storing it, if you are really concerned you can probably rub on wax to the edges everytime you get home from boarding to protect it from moisture, and it will easily come off when you ride. Some people file off the top sheet of their board onh the nose and tail to prevent people from nicking it, but actually they are already taking off some of their topsheet anyways, but its looks more consistent than nicks.

I went snowboarding for the first time yesterday. I’m going again tomorrow. How do I stop falling over lol?

I learnt how to do a toe side falling leaf manouvre (going down backwards) but I kept falling back on my butt and damn it hurts! I tried to push my knees forward but I get so scared I’m going to fall forward. How do I get more control and overcome my fears. Also, I always fall over when I get to the flat part at the bottom. How do I stop this?

You need to practice balancing. And it takes a lot of practice before you don’t fall over too much
