if i learn to snowboard will i be able to learn skateboarding more easily?

vice versa: if i learn skateboarding, will i be able to learn snowboarding more easily?

Like the other guy said, its pretty different. I am a pretty well accomplished skateboarder, I have been skating for over 7 years and have had 3 sponsors, including the Skatepark of Tampa back in 2002.

I went snowboarding my first time last year and i thought I would be able to hop on the board and be able to do 360s and rails like it was nothing cause im good at skateboarding, but boy was I wrong…the first time going down a hill i tried to turn like you do on a skateboard(by just leaning to the side) and i fell and caught my heel edge and took one to the dome. it wasnt pretty.

it took me a while to learn that you have to twist your waist and legs to the side to turn, but stopping wasnt too hard to learn cause in skateboarding there is a thing called "powerslides" and they are essentially the same thing as stopping on a snowboard, you twist your board perpendicular to the direction you are riding and lean back and keep your legs kinda stiff, that will stop you on a skateboard too.

ollies on a snowboard and skateboard are kinda different, but if you have the motion of an ollie on a snowboard, it shouldnt take long to learn the skateboard technique.

Good luck with everything though, dont be afraid of falling and getting hurt and youll progress alot faster. take it easy man!

My mom wants me to stop snowboarding..but its my passion.?

Ive snowboarded since age 7 and im turning 14 this sunday, so thats 7 years on average. Im really good, i try to go at least 3 times a week on a minimum, im in the snowboarding club at my school, i can ride black diamond and when i first started, i didnt start on the bunny hill i went straight onto one of the larger ones. My mom has this fear of me snowboarding, she hates it. shes always bugging me and bugging me to stop and not to get hurt and to go slower and not to try too hard to win races and stuff like that, but snowboarding is my passion, and i want to work toward getting sponsored.She says its harder for a girl, which is really steriotypical, because my older sister is sponsored and so is my brother. theyre equally good, and im great aswell. but my mom just doesnt think i can do it, but i think shes only doubting me because she doesnt want me to think highly of myself so i dont get sponsored and snowboard MORE. Nobodys going to stop my love of snowboarding, and nobodys going to stop me. so how do i get my mom over this fear and let her know that this is what i want, and this is what i love so its what im gonna do. its driving me crazy..
I hate helments and wrist gaurds. im not a novice at the least. They just distract me. I wear my hat, my hoodie, my board pants, gloves, and my boots. then i get my board and im good to go. thats how i learned, thats how i compete, thats how i like it…how do i get her used to it?!

i totally understand your hate for helmets but its probably a good idea to wear one especially if you want to get sponsored and go pro. A lot of contests require helmets and you dont want to be distracted when you’re competing so get used to it now so by then you wont notice it. I never wore a helmet until about 3 years ago i took a bad fall on a rail and got a pretty bad concussion and ive worn a helmet ever since. I hated it at first but after 10 times or so you dont notice it because it becomes routine. Not only that but i found my riding in the park improved because i wasnt as worried about getting injured. as far as your mom, has she ever gone with you? see if she will go snowboarding(or skiing) with you once or twice and if shes able to see the talent you have and that you’re in control and arent being stupid about it she might open up to it more.

Help picking out a snowboard please?

I am 5’9" and I have already started to snowboard. I can carve and do the basics so I am looking to get my own board so that I don’t have to rent. I am looking for something to grow into so I don’t have to buy another one in the next couple of years. I’m looking for an intermediate to advanced for this reason. Also, I’m trying to stay 400 dollars and under, but I’m flexible within reason. Thanks.

400 dollars and under is a bit tough to spot but a nice all mountain board off the top of my head is the rossignol alias, You can get it for around 300-350$ good board for carving and getting into a little of every type of terrain. That’s just the board though you would still need bindings.

If you’re looking more freestyle true twin shape then you could also check out the
GNU Street
Libtech’s SKate Banana
K2 Jibpan

They’re designed more for freestyle but you can take these things pretty much anywhere, you probly wont find this years model under 400 though.

which is easier to turn, a shorter snowboard or a longer one?

and which one goes faster?

Shorter=easier to turn
Longer=faster

A shorter board is generally more suited to park riding, whereas a longer board is better for cruising the hill.
