Is learning to snowboard easier if I am already pretty good at roller blades?
Roller blading will help to learn skiing more – two independant feet with using pressure on one or the other for balance.
Skateboarding, surfing, wakeboarding and windsurfing require balance over a single board keeping your center of balance over the board. These will help more when learning to snowboard.
But regardless, a good sense of balance will help. And snowboarding isn’t that hard to learn the basics. I was going down intermediate runs on my third day. Getting REALLY good is a whole different matter!
Good Luck

i try doing j turns but i keep falling. what other ways can i stop?
well i did that before lol
ANYTHING ELSE THAT DOESNT HAVE TO DO WITH A TREE!!
Ok, seriously, turn so that you are facing downhill horizontal to the slope of the hill, and lean back onto the blade on the back side of your board (your heel side). And bend your knees. Don’t give up, and avoid rails and pipes until you’ve mastered all types of hills!
I need tips on how to carve on a snowboard.?
I really want to be able to carve down a slope, but I don’t really know what to do. Help me, please!!
First you have to keep practicing. The first time i snowboarded I wanted to give up. So… keep your knees bent, some people like having their arms out, to keep them balanced. Slowly shift your body weight to your front foot, while slightly moving your hip to get your back foot to move.. its pretty hard to explain, but when you get the hang of it, you will get what i mean. good luck!
When I snowboard I do wide turns. When I watch other people snowboard they do short fast turns. How do u turn?
When I snowboard I do wide turns. When I watch other people snowboard they do short fast turns. This technique of turning makes them go faster. When I try to do turns like that it makes me loose my balence and I fall. Also my body won’t let me do those fast turns. Also when I turn, my front leg gets alot of pressure when I turn. Can some one help give me advice?
If your near Jiminy peak mountain i can give u a lesson for free. If not here is the deal. There are 4 movements that you do that make things happen. Pivot Pressure tilt and twist PPTT. . Its all about keeping your weight over the front of the board and putting pressure on either your toes (like your squashing a bug) or on your heels (like trying to get the gum off the heel of your sneaker) the more pressure and tilt you put on your board the quicker you will turn. Make sure that your stance is exactly the way you want it . Take your bindings off and line them up 100% the way it feels most comtrible. And start on a smaller hill. Sounds like you are trying to LINK TURNS i can futher explain how this is done. Hit me with an email anthony@choice1funding.net. I have been instruting snowboarding for 6 years
what are some of the basics that i need to know for snowboarding?
I’m going snowboarding tomorrow with 2 of my buddies, but we have never snowboarded b4. We know how to ski, so just tell me the basics aobut how to turn, slow down, stop, get off ski lift and things like that… thanks everyone
focus on keeping centered body weight on the board, beginners dont exactly know how to control the board yet so equal weight on both feet is a must until you are ready to turn or stop or carve, so to do this, place your hands on your knees while going down, this will keep ur shoulders facing the same as your knees and force you to get used to just turning your head, if you try to turn your shoulders before you are experienced in riding, the weight of your back foot will all shift to your front foot and the tail of your board will have no control and you’ll end up face planting it or falling on your taint…..that is the most important, dont be afraid to shift your body hard enough to make the board do what you want it to do, remember you control the board nothing else…
I am going to teach my friend how to snowboard, any suggestions/tips?
She is a first time rider, and is going to be riding one of my boards, a 148 which looks like a good height for her, but i just need to know how much or how little i should teach her on her first time.
Do her (and yourself) a favor and buy her a beginner lesson… a certified instructor will have a better chance of starting her out on the right path. If you want to make yourself useful, ask the instructor what you should watch out for when riding with your friend for the remainder of the day.
what’s a good snowboard to learn tricks on?
so i just learned snowboarding this season and love it. I got to use a burton cruzer, and can handle myself pretty well just free riding. But now that i want to mix it up a bit more, what kind of board should i look into to start learning to do tricks?
